SPOKANE, Wash. – Residents in Spokane are voicing opposition to deportations by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
Protesters gathered at 411 West Cataldo to block a bus they say is set to transport detainees from a local ICE facility to Tacoma.
Protester David Brookbank emphasized their stance, saying, “We believe in due process, we believe in justice, we believe that our country stands for certain things.”
The protest has grown to about 10 to 15 people blocking a bus they claim is set to transport detainees to a Tacoma facility. Initially, just one protester sat in front of the bus, but the group has since increased in size.
Two officials reportedly informed the protesters they were obstructing federal operations and could face arrest. A man not associated with the protest spray-painted the bus windshield and left on a bike, surprising even the protesters.
The building behind the protest is identified as a U.S. Department of Homeland Security facility, specifically the Spokane ERO. While the situation remains peaceful, protesters and authorities continue to interact, with the protest ongoing.
