WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Michael Baumgartner from Washington’s 5th Congressional District has announced the second annual “Classroom to the Capitol” contest.
The initiative celebrates exceptional teachers in the district by offering a unique opportunity, Baumgartner said in his release.
The contest recognizes one outstanding teacher who demonstrates dedication and innovation in the classroom. The selected teacher will have the honor of attending the 2026 State of the Union address on February 24 as Congressman Baumgartner’s guest.
“Teachers ignite curiosity, build confidence, and shape the leaders of tomorrow,” said Congressman Baumgartner. “Last year’s inaugural contest was an incredible experience, and I was honored to have Stacey Nash from Wilbur-Creston join me at the State of the Union.”
Nominations can be submitted by students, parents, fellow teachers and school administrators. Each nomination must include a brief essay detailing the teacher’s impact and achievements.
Nominations should be sent via email to collin.tracy@mail.house.gov by February 8, 2026. The winner will be chosen based on the strength of their nomination and their influence on the school community.
While the winner will receive a ticket to the event, they will be responsible for their transportation and lodging, following House Ethics guidelines.
