Spokane Public Schools announces summer camp lineup with variety of options

SPOKANE, Wash. — Spokane Public Schools has released its comprehensive summer camp programs for 2026, providing numerous opportunities for students to stay active and engaged during the break from regular classes.

One of the district’s most popular and unique programs is Camp Imagine. Every year, the camp follows a theme related to kids’ interests and turns it into activities that are both physical and mentally engaging. This year’s theme is video games.

“Everyone loves video games, Pokémon, Minecraft, and Mario, so how do we turn those video games into hands-on through STEM, art, and fitness concepts? I’m really excited to do that this summer,” said Aaliyah Ashley-Meek, Athletics and Activities Engagement Navigator for Spokane Public Schools.

Athletic camps will run from June 1 through the end of July, targeting elementary and middle school students. The district aims to generate enthusiasm for high school athletics and encourage future participation in programs at the five high schools hosting these camps.

“Just having kids envision themselves as future highlanders, or future tigers, future pirates, getting you know, your feeder pattern kids in the schools working with the current athletes and current coaches. Just getting kids excited to go to school there,” said Ashley-Meek.

Student athletes and coaches from within the district lead all athletic camps. The district says this collaboration allows participants to build relationships across school boundaries while developing their athletic skills.

“It just really builds up your feeder pattern. But also at the end of the day, it is an opportunity to connect with people and to build your community in a way that fosters stronger relationships,” Ashley-Meek said.

While the district has a few free programs listed, the majority are between $20 and $100. Scholarships are provided on a need basis.
