SPOKANE, Wash. — Mayor Lisa Brown has proclaimed March 31 as Transgender Day of Visibility in Spokane, honoring the contributions and lives of transgender and gender-expansive people.
The observance, founded in 2009 by transgender advocate Rachel Crandall, celebrates the accomplishments and everyday lives of transgender individuals.
Mayor Brown said transgender people today are valued members of the Spokane community, including youth, elders, parents, educators, artists, healthcare workers, advocates, and leaders, whose contributions strengthen the city’s cultural, civic, and social life.
Brown encouraged all residents to join in recognizing and celebrating the transgender members of the community.
The proclamation was signed and sealed by Mayor Brown on March 17, 2026.
