SPOKANE, Wash. – This year’s Spokane Pride Festival is set to be the largest in the city’s history. However, attendees may notice a change in the iconic pride crosswalk at Riverfront Park.
Matthew Danielson from Spokane Pride explained why the crosswalk is no longer fully painted.
“The crosswalk was supposed to be temporary from the start,” he said.
The crosswalk had been vandalized at least twice, with each incident costing $15,000 to replace. Danielson stated that the cost was a significant factor in the decision not to repaint it.
Instead, Spokane Pride is collaborating with the Spokane Arts Council to create a more permanent display on a building.
“We’re working to put something on a building and make it more permanent,” Danielson shared.
A pride flag raising is scheduled for tomorrow night at City Hall.
