SPOKANE, Wash. – Spokane Police have released new video footage related to an incident involving 60-year-old Robert Botzon. The video shows officers making contact with Botzon on February 9 at an apartment complex in the South Hill area.

Botzon had a warrant for his arrest for failing to register as a sex offender. Spokane Police Department (SPD) released the video to maintain transparency.

The police were conducting an emphasis patrol at the apartment complex due to reported criminal activity. Officers identified Botzon based on his vehicle license plates.

When officers approached to detain him, Botzon attempted to pull away and fell to the ground. At that point, officers discovered he had a gun.

In response to the threat posed by Botzon, Officer Darren Keblish shot him. Botzon was then taken to the hospital for treatment.

Regarding his criminal case for failing to register as a sex offender, Botzon is scheduled for a trial readiness hearing in December, with the trial set for January 5 of next year.
