SPOKANE, Wash. – Spokane’s Police Ombudsman Bart Logue is currently under an independent investigation following allegations of using his official position for personal gain.
The complaint was filed by Spokane Valley resident Evans Sims. Sims previously accused Logue of mishandling an investigation, a case that was dismissed by the city’s ethics commission earlier this year. However, Sims has since refiled with new allegations.
Sims claimed Logue used his role to secure a $100,000 consulting contract in Illinois. He pointed to Logue’s position as CEO of Pivot Consulting Group, stating, “This would be virtually impossible to not conflict with his duties to the citizens of Spokane.”
Sims also alleged that Logue has failed to stay independent from the Spokane Police Department, saying, “He is expanding his business into rewriting the use of force manual.”
Records indicate that Logue presented oversight recommendations in Oak Park, Illinois last fall while identifying himself as Spokane’s Police Ombudsman. Shortly after, he informed the Office of the Police Ombuds Commission about forming a private consulting company and asserted that he adhered to city policy.
Despite his disclosure, the ethics commission approved an investigation into Logue during a meeting last week.
