Spokane planetarium offers cosmic shows, blending education and entertainment

SPOKANE, Wash. – Spokane Falls Community College is offering a captivating opportunity for families to explore the wonders of the cosmos.

The college is hosting monthly screenings of their “Earth, Moon & Sun” show at the planetarium, which are open to everyone.

Michele Moore, the planetarium director, emphasized their educational focus.

“Probably once a month, someone calls to ask me when my next Pink Floyd show will be. And the truth is, we’re really committed to not doing that at the SFCC Planetarium. We really take that academic piece very seriously,” she said.

Moore added that attendees receive more than just a movie experience.

“You’re not just getting a full dome movie. You’re getting that half hour Sky presentation,” she said. “I paid $10 at the Griffith Observatory to see the new Tom Hanks movie that lasts 22 minutes. Here, you pay that same $10, you get that same movie, and you get a half an hour time with me talking about the night sky.”

Tickets for the shows become available one month in advance, costing $8 for adults and $6 for students and kids.

While the February 19 and March 12 shows are already sold out, tickets for the April 16 show will go on sale starting March 16.
