Spokane offers tourism grants to boost local economy

SPOKANE, Wash. — The City of Spokane is accepting applications for Tourism and Cultural Investment grants that can provide up to $10,000 to event organizers to help promote more tourism to the city.

The Spring season is popularly known as Spokane’s most touristic season. Many visitors come from all over to experience many well-known events. This year, the city’s streets could see even more visitors through the new grant program.

Visit Spokane is an organization that keeps track of visitor numbers. They say the extra foot traffic can bring a lot of benefits to the Spokane community.

They describe the grant as an “investment” into the city. More visitation to the city will give the local economy a boost by increasing stays at hotels, drive more customers to local businesses and restaurants, and ultimately, paint a positive image of Spokane.

Visit Spokane says in 2024, the city had 10.1 million visitors, and those tourists contributed $1.53 billion into the city.

The grants are paid for by the city’s lodging tax, which is collected from room rentals in hotels, motels and other lodging facilities.

For Spokane residents, Visit Spokane says that in 2024, tourism helped support roughly 18,000 jobs.
