SPOKANE, Wash. — Spokane Mayor Lisa Brown has ordered all flags to be flown at half-staff in honor of a fallen Spokane County sheriff’s sergeant.

According to a press release from the mayor’s office, Brown ordered flags at all city facilities to be lowered in remembrance of Spokane County Sgt. Ken Salas, who was struck and killed while helping with a traffic hazard on I-90.

“We are deeply saddened by the loss of Sergeant Salas, who was killed while serving our community. The City of Spokane extends its deepest sympathies to his family, friends, and colleagues with the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office,” Brown said.

Flags will remain lowered through Monday. The city encourages anyone with a flag outside their home or business to join in this recognition.
