SPOKANE, Wash. – A Spokane man was sentenced to over 22 years in prison (269.5 months) after a jury convicted him of three counts of second-degree assault, one count of first-degree burglary, and one count of unlawful possession of a firearm.
According to the Spokane County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, Dustin D. Walter and Kayela S. Nielsen forced their way into a home in Northwest Spokane in December 2024 to confront a man they accused of stealing drugs. They shoved one person into a bathroom and threatened others with a handgun.
When police arrived, the individual in the bathroom had suffered injuries to the head and there was a bullet hole in his sweatshirt.
Walter’s criminal history included 11 felony convictions, which a judge considered while sentencing him, according to the Spokane County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.
Nielsen pleaded guilty in October of 2025 and was sentenced to 57 months.
