SPOKANE, Wash. – Carl William Lindsey made his first court appearance today on charges of drive-by shooting and unlawful possession of a firearm in connection with a February 18 shooting in West Central Spokane.
Witnesses told police that they saw Lindsey fire a gun from a pickup truck near the intersection of W Maxwell Ave and N Howard and later wave his gun at traffic at a gas station on North Ash, according to court documents filed in Spokane Superior Court.
A police chase ensued with the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) helicopter ‘Air 1’ in pursuit of the speeding vehicle.
Video footage shows officers surrounding the driver, eventually using a taser to subdue and bring him into custody.
Officers executed a search warrant on the pickup truck, discovering discharged and unfired .380 caliber bullets, court documents said.
Investigators said Lindsey’s girlfriend discovered the gun she owned was missing after Lindsey’s arrest. It’s believed to be used in the shooting, said police.
No one was injured in the shooting.
Additional charges were filed against Lindsey, including eluding, resisting arrest, and hit and run. His bail was increased to $50,000.
The court set Lindsey’s arraignment for February 26.
