SPOKANE, Wash. – Spokane police arrested a man Friday in connection with an assault and reported abduction that began the night before.
According to the Spokane Police Department, Taylor Gudgel, 36, was booked into Spokane County Jail on suspicion of first-degree rape–domestic violence, first-degree kidnapping–domestic violence, felony violation of a domestic violence order, unlawful imprisonment–domestic violence and first-degree assault, police said.
Police said that the case began around 9 p.m. Thursday when officers responded to a 911 call near Greene Street and Sprague Avenue. Dispatchers reported hearing screaming and what sounded like a physical altercation in the background. When officers arrived, they found an adult man in the street with serious injuries. Police said Gudgel had assaulted the man during a fight and also struck him with a vehicle. The man was taken to a hospital and is expected to recover.
Investigators said that they determined the male victim and an adult woman, who had a domestic violence protection order against Gudgel, were acquaintances and had been seen together before the assault.
On Friday morning, a relative of the woman called police, saying they feared she had been kidnapped by Gudgel. Officers later found Gudgel’s vehicle around 2:15 p.m. in the 3700 block of East 26th Avenue.
Because of the circumstances, the Spokane police SWAT team forced entry into a home at the location, where officers found Gudgel and the woman inside. Gudgel was taken into custody without incident.
The woman was taken to a hospital for treatment of her injuries, police said.
