SPOKANE, Wash. – Spokane is making a significant investment in affordable housing by allocating $7.5 million to support nine local projects.
The funding will facilitate four new construction projects, resulting in 95 new units.
Of these, 63 units will be available to households earning 60% or less of the area’s median income.
Additionally, two projects will rehabilitate 50 existing units and add 49 more for those earning 80% or less.
A homeownership project is set to create 12 townhomes, with half designated for households earning 80% or less.
Spokane City Councilmember Jonathon Bingle expressed optimism about the initiative.
“And I think that’s the first meaningful step we’ve taken. And even though it was only 12 units, I hope what we learned from this is that people are ready to buy homes. You know, so long as they’re attainable and within their price range. I think this is a good step for us, as we’re incentivizing housing production in the city of Spokane,” Bingle said.
Two additional projects will target vulnerable populations, assisting 86 households.
