Spokane International Airport braces for record-breaking summer travel

SPOKANE, Wash. – Spokane International Airport is gearing up for what could be its busiest summer season ever, with a significant increase in scheduled airline seats.

“GEG is now recognized as one of the busiest small-hub airports in the nation,” Frank Miller, Interim Spokane Airports CEO said.

The airport anticipates more than 8,500 airline seats departing daily in June and July, marking a 13% increase from last year.

This surge is largely due to expanded air services to major cities like Chicago, Dallas, Denver, Los Angeles, and San Francisco.

For Memorial Day weekend, departing seats are up nearly 18% compared to last year. Passengers are encouraged to arrive early as peak travel times will see over 4,000 passengers passing through checkpoints daily between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.

Other busy periods include early mornings from 4-7 a.m. and late evenings from 9-11:59 p.m.
