SPOKANE, Wash. – Before the smoke at Wednesday night’s protests, arrests were already underway, including Justice Forral, identified by his pink tank top. According to court documents, Forral is accused of barricading officers inside their building by parking his red Toyota Yaris in front of a van and slashing the tires of an ICE vehicle. Erin Lang, seen wearing an orange helmet, was also arrested. Court documents state she assisted Forral in his actions.
During the hearing, Forral’s lawyer highlighted his lack of a criminal record, requesting leniency. “There is no risk of a violent crime here,” said the lawyer.
In court, Forral had a visible reaction when the bond was discussed. The request was for a bond set at $2,500. Both Forral and Lang were released on their own recognizance but are required to stay away from ICE facilities. Forral and Lang were among 30 people arrested, while thousands participated in the protest.
Maria Zurati, who protested on Wednesday but wasn’t arrested, explained her reason for joining. “I’m here to stand with our people,” she said.
Zurati expressed disapproval of ICE’s actions, stating, “To top it off, they are looking for these immigrants when they could be looking for children… or pedophiles.
A 7-year Army medic also participated and shared their views. “Detaining someone because they were not born in this country is wrong. If this is what ICE wants to continue to do, then take down what’s said on the statue of liberty.”
Forral and Lang are both charged with felonies for unlawful detainment. Many others arrested are accused of misdemeanors. However, most of the crowd engaged in peaceful protest.
