OLYMPIA — If you’re shopping at Rosauers in Spokane, you might be in the presence of a champion. Michael Le, a courtesy clerk at the North Division Street store, finished third in the National Best Bagger Competition, held Monday night at the National Grocers Association Show in Las Vegas, according to a Washington Food Industry Association press release.
Le earned his spot in the national competition after winning Washington’s state-level contest, hosted by the association. Contestants were judged on speed, precision, balance, style, attitude and appearance while bagging groceries.
As the second runner-up, Le received a $1,000 cash prize and “bagging rights,” the release said.
WFIA President and CEO Tammie Hetrick praised Le in the release. “Michael brings such a positive energy and sense of pride to his work for Rosauers. Courtesy clerks are an important part of the grocery store experience. He is an excellent brand ambassador for the store and for our industry,” Hetrick said.
Highlighting the intensity of the national competition, Hetrick added, “Michael did a great job representing Washington state and his home store. Now, Rosauers customers will know their groceries are in good hands if he’s at the check stand.”
Established in 1987, the NGA Best Bagger Championship has grown from a local “Texas-Oklahoma Checkout Shootout” into a national event. Le’s achievement, the release noted, is a testament to his dedication and skill, bringing pride to his community and workplace.
