SPOKANE COUNTY, Wash. – Spokane County’s non-emergency phone line, Crime Check, is now being answered by an automated assistant. This new system started taking calls at 10:00 a.m. today, according to a recent report.
S-R-E-C stated that this change aims to better manage the high volume of non-emergency calls, which exceed 250,000 annually. County data indicates that about half of these calls require an immediate response.
S-R-E-C assured that emergency cases will still be transferred to human phone operators if the system determines it necessary.
For emergencies, residents should continue to call 911 directly.
