SPOKANE COUNTY, Wash. – Spokane County Assessor Tom Konis has issued a warning to residents about a spoofing scam involving calls that falsely appear to come from the Assessor’s Office after normal business hours.
Several residents have reported receiving these unexpected calls claiming to be from the Spokane County Assessor. Assessor Konis clarified these calls are not legitimate and do not originate from his office.
“This is a spoofing attack,” Konis said. “We want the public to know that these calls are not legitimate and are not coming from our office. We urge residents to always be cautious and protect their personal and financial information.”
Residents are advised not to answer calls from unknown numbers, even if the caller ID shows “Spokane County.” It is crucial never to share personal or financial information over the phone unless the caller’s identity is certain.
If you receive a suspicious call, report it to Crime Check at 509-456-2233.
The Spokane County Assessor’s Office is working with local authorities to monitor the situation and encourages the public to remain vigilant.
