SPOKANE COUNTY, Wash. – Voters in Spokane County will soon have the opportunity to weigh in on important measures affecting public services.

One key measure on the August 5 ballot is the proposal to renew and expand the Spokane Valley-Rathdrum Prairie Aquifer Protection Area.

If approved, this measure would authorize monthly fees of up to $1.25 per household for water withdrawal and on-site sewage disposal for up to 20 years.

Another significant proposition on the ballot is the City of Spokane Valley’s Public Safety Sales and Use Tax. This measure seeks to increase the sales tax rate by 0.1% to fund public safety services including the addition of new police officers.

Additionally, Spokane County Fire Protection District No. 8 is proposing an Emergency Medical Services Levy Lid Lift.

This would restore the EMS property tax levy to $0.50 per $1,000 of assessed value in 2025 and allow for annual adjustments based on the consumer price index. The funds would be dedicated solely to emergency medical services.

A similar proposition is on the table for Spokane County Fire District No. 13, seeking to continue its emergency medical services property tax levy at the same rate for six years, starting in 2026.

Spokane County voters will also decide a number of candidate races:
