SPOKANE COUNTY, Wash. – A recent strategic planning meeting with the Spokane County Commission highlighted significant initiatives to improve community safety and support vulnerable populations.
Held on July 7, 2025, the meeting brought together county officials to discuss funding awards and community programs.
Jami Hayes, senior project manager for the Public Works Department, announced a $940,000 grant from the Washington State Department of Transportation.
She said the funding, part of the Safe Routes to School and Pedestrian Bike program, will enhance safety around Creekside Elementary School.
It will fund sidewalk improvements, ADA ramps and flashing beacons in high-traffic areas.
Hayes emphasized the need for these upgrades, noting that more than 10,000 vehicles travel near the school daily, with many exceeding speed limits.
