Domestic violence assault suspect dies in crash following police pursuit in Spokane

SPOKANE COUNTY, Wash. — A domestic violence assault suspect died in a crash near North Argonne Road and East Upriver Drive on Saturday.

According to the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office, deputies received calls about a domestic violence assault inside of a vehicle in the area around 11 a.m.

Deputies found the vehicle parked near Boulder Beach. The victim got out of the car, appeared distraught, and needed help.

The male driver did not follow SCSO’s demands and sped west on Upriver Drive.

SCSO said deputies pursued the suspect, who lost control near Camp Sekani, hit an unoccupied car and crashed into a tree.

The man died at the scene from his injuries.

The victim was taken to the hospital with apparent non-life-threatening injuries.

The Sheriff’s Office said East Upriver Drive from the Minnehaha Climbing Rocks area west to Camp Sekani remains closed during the investigation. Drivers should avoid the area and plan to take an alternate route.

The Spokane County Medical Examiner’s Office will release the name of the deceased at a later time when appropriate.
