Spokane County residents asked for feedback on disaster, wildfire prevention plan

SPOKANE, WASH. – Spokane County leaders are asking people to review and comment on a new plan focused on disaster safety and wildfire prevention.

Cities, towns and special districts across the county worked together for more than a year to create the Draft 2026 Hazard Mitigation and Community Wildfire Protection Plan.

The project was led by Spokane County Emergency Management with help from Bridgeview Consulting.

The plan was made to help communities prepare for events like wildfires, floods, storms and earthquakes. It also helps the county qualify for federal disaster funding.

During the process, residents shared their experiences and concerns through meetings, surveys and online tools.

Leaders used that feedback to help shape the plan.

The draft is now open for public review. Officials say community comments will help improve the final version. The public comment period is open through Feb. 23, 2026.

You can read the draft plan online here for volume 1 and here for volume 2.
