SPOKANE, Wash. – Spokane County Commissioners have finalized a new medical contract for the Spokane County Jail.

Mediko is the new provider. They announced plans to add 10 more full-time medical staff members at the jail, including a psychiatrist, and will introduce opioid treatment services.

For the first time, inmates at the Spokane County Jail will have access to medical care seven days a week, rather than just on weekdays.

Mediko’s CEO and owner, Kaveh Ofogh, expressed his enthusiasm about the new partnership.

“We are very excited and privileged to be awarded this contract,” said Ofogh.

He explained that it’s common practice for the new contractor to retain 80 to 90% of the existing employees.

The contract is set to officially start on February.
