SPOKANE COUNTY, Wash. – A century-old tragedy is being commemorated in Spokane County with a new memorial street sign.
Officer Frederick Jermaine, who was killed in a motorcycle accident in July 1922, is being honored at the intersection of Regal and Trent. His sacrifice is now etched into the community’s history.
Officer Jermaine was killed while pursuing a speeding vehicle driven by a repeat offender. During the chase, a large truck swerved to avoid colliding with him. The truck ended up in a ditch, spun around, and struck Officer Jermaine, killing him instantly.
