Spokane County expands stabilization center with opioid settlement funds

SPOKANE COUNTY, Wash. – Spokane County is moving forward with a significant expansion of its addiction and behavioral health services. The county plans to utilize millions from opioid settlement funds for this initiative, according to our partners at the Spokesman-Review.

Documents revealed the vision for the regional stabilization center, a facility that is already aiding people in crisis. In May of last year, county commissioners allocated $5.2 million to enhance local treatment options.

Now, an $11.5 million expansion is officially underway. The plan includes a new 17,000-square-foot building that will house a crisis relief center. Unlike the current stabilization center, which provides short-term crisis support, the new relief center will offer a broader range of services with a long-term focus.

The project is still in its pre-development phase, allowing city officials time to review the proposal before permits are issued. If approved, the expansion could significantly increase Spokane’s ability to support those in crisis.
