SPOKANE COUNTY, Wash. – Spokane County Parks, Recreation and Golf announced burn restrictions due to the dry and breezy weather. The restrictions, effective immediately, prohibit outdoor burning and charcoal briquet BBQs in all unincorporated Spokane County Parks.

Parks Director Doug Chase emphasized the importance of these measures. “The increased risk of wildfires necessitates these restrictions to ensure public safety,” he said. Violators may face misdemeanor charges if they fail to extinguish fires when notified.

Additionally, Liberty Lake ORV Park will close to motorized activities starting Monday, July 7, 2025, to further protect public safety. For more details, contact Spokane County Parks at (509) 477-4730.

In light of the upcoming Fourth of July celebrations, Spokane County Regional Animal Protection Service has offered pet safety tips. Fireworks can frighten pets, causing them to flee familiar surroundings.

SCRAPS advises keeping pets indoors with a radio or TV on to mask the noise. For pets scared by fireworks, consulting a veterinarian for anxiety relief options is recommended. Additionally, pet owners should be vigilant about heatstroke risks during summer festivities.

“Never leave your pet in a parked car,” SCRAPS warned. Temperatures inside vehicles can become dangerously high quickly. Hot pavement can also harm pets’ paws.

Pets should wear collars with ID tags and be licensed with Spokane County. This ensures a higher chance of being reunited if they become lost. For more information, visit SCRAPS website or call (509) 477-2532.
