The Spokane County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that a sergeant from the department was struck and killed while helping with a traffic hazard related to the incident.
Spokane County Sheriff John Nowels is expected to hold a press conference at the Public Safety Building later in the afternoon to provide further details.

I-90 eastbound near Four Lakes is still blocked according to Washington State Patrol.
The Spokane County Deputy and motorcyclist have critical injuries after an accident caused by a truck that lost a hay bale off its load.
FOUR LAKES, Wash. – The I-90 eastbound is blocked near Four Lakes due to a car crash, according to the Washington State Department of Transportation.
The incident started when a truck carrying hay bales lost one of its bales, which hit a motorcyclist. The motorcyclist then swerved into a Spokane County Deputy patrol vehicle.
The motorcyclist and the deputy are both injured, according to Washington State Patrol District 4.
The crash is at milepost 270 near the state route 904 exit. There is a detour available.
