SPOKANE COUNTY, Wash. – A felony theft suspect was recently identified and arrested using surveillance video and advanced technology, the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) reported.
On January 21, a loss prevention employee reported that a white male suspect entered a store on the 14400 block of North Newport Highway around 4:20 p.m. The 30-year-old suspect concealed tools valued at approximately $780 in his jacket and left without paying.
An analyst from the SCSO Real-Time Crime Center reviewed store surveillance video and identified the suspect’s white 2008 Nissan Frontier using Automated License Plate Reader (ALPR) technology.
The Spokane County Sheriff’s Investigative Unit confirmed the vehicle and suspect through various law enforcement resources. Probable cause was established to arrest the suspect for felony theft on February 5.
Law enforcement received an ALPR Alert on February 8, around 10:25 p.m., indicating that the suspect’s Nissan was traveling on Sullivan Road. SCSO deputies found the truck in a gas station parking lot, confirmed the license plate and detained the suspect.
An adult female passenger was also detained but later released without charges. The 30-year-old male suspect was booked into Spokane County Jail for felony theft, and his Nissan, along with its contents, were seized pending a search warrant.
The SCSO stated that the investigation is ongoing, and additional charges may be filed.
