SPOKANE COUNTY, Wash. – The Spokane County Commissioners have appointed Preston McCollam as the new county prosecutor. McCollam has been serving in the position since July, following the retirement of former prosecutor Larry Haskell.
The decision came after commissioners interviewed three nominees on Tuesday, with McCollam being chosen to officially fill the role.
“One of the critical roles of prosecutor is to make sure that crime victims have a voice. And by bringing transparency to what it is that we do and what law enforcement does… it’s incredibly important for the public to see just what the impact of crime is on the community — on the crime victims — on the average citizens that day in and day out have to bear the cost of that,” McCollam stated.
He also expressed his dedication to advocating for crime victims every day.
“You have an advocate. You have somebody who’s going to be fighting for you — not just today — but tomorrow and the next day… and the next day,” McCollam said.
McCollam will continue to serve as prosecutor until the end of Larry Haskell’s term, which concludes in 2026. At that time, voters will decide who will hold the position long-term.
