SPOKANE, Wash. – Council Member Paul Dillon received the “We Train Washington Legislative Champion” award for his work related to employment pathways and wage policies in the grocery industry.
Dillon thanked the organization for the recognition.
“I am honored to be recognized by We Train Washington and grateful for passionate advocates and workers that made this happen,” said Council Member Dillon. “At a time of consolidation and economic uncertainty, ensuring that our grocery workers earn a living wage is not just a matter of dignity and equity – it is essential for building stronger, healthier communities.”
We Train Washington, in collaboration with United Food and Commercial Workers International Union 3000 and Spokane Community College, proposed the first pre-apprenticeship and apprenticeship meatcutter program in Eastern Washington. The City of Spokane supported the proposal.
The organization focuses on career development in the grocery sector, including training and leadership opportunities.
Dillon has been involved in policies such as the “Public Dollars for Public Benefit” ordinance, which addresses training and workforce development in Spokane.
