Spokane community remembers Sergeant Kenneth Salas for 34 years of service

SPOKANE, Wash. – The Spokane community is mourning the loss of Sergeant Kenneth Salas, who died in the line of duty on I-90. Flowers and tributes are being placed outside the public service building in his honor.

Sergeant Salas served with the Sheriff’s Office for 34 years and spent more than two decades in the Air Force and Washington Air National Guard.

Many describe him as a kind and professional leader who prioritized others. Stories of his service and kindness are being shared by those who knew him. Multiple law enforcement agencies have offered their condolences, including the International Homicide Investigators Association and the Chelan County Sheriff’s Office.

They stated, “Our hearts go out to the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office as they mourn the loss of their sergeant.”

The Washington State Patrol is investigating the incident. Those wishing to pay their respects can leave flowers or flags outside the public safety building.
