SPOKANE, Wash. – The College Success Foundation’s Spokane office will close on July 9, resulting from budgetary decisions at the state level. This closure is set to affect many students who rely on the foundation’s support, said Shannon Demant, Executive Director of the College Success Foundation Spokane.

The foundation, which has been in Spokane for 10 years, focuses on helping low-income, first-generation students navigate post-secondary education. Kevin Brockbank, Chancellor and CEO of Spokane Colleges, emphasized the importance of the foundation, stating, “The idea that we would lose that partner in this community is damaging to us and really disappointing.”

The closure means the loss of 17 employees and a $2.2 million operating budget, which includes resources like transportation to college campuses and student workshops. Despite the setback, Demant expressed optimism about continuing the work through partnerships with local nonprofits and philanthropic organizations.

Brockbank highlighted the broad impact of the foundation, noting, “This is one of those programs that levels the playing field for students.” He stressed the importance of maintaining educational support to ensure students can achieve their potential and contribute to the community.

As the community seeks innovative solutions, discussions with local lawmakers and organizations are ongoing to address the funding gap and continue supporting Spokane’s students. The foundation and its partners remain committed to finding ways to provide opportunities for students who are furthest from educational access.
