Spokane City Council interviews candidates to fill vacant seat

SPOKANE, Wash. – Applicants to replace Spokane City Council Member Lili Navarrete, representing District 2, Position 2, were interviewed during a city council meeting on Thursday, which was open to the public.

Following Navarrete’s announcement stating plans to resign from the council by July 1, the council began working to fill the vacancy.

The search for Navarrete’s successor began with an application period from May 23 to June 20. On Thursday, July 10, the council conducted interviews with the candidates, adhering to Council Rules and Procedures and Section 8 of the City Charter.

Members of the public will have the opportunity to provide testimony about the candidates during the legislative session on July 14. The final vote to appoint the new council member will take place on July 28 in an open session, following a possible executive session to review candidates’ qualifications.
