SPOKANE, Wash. – The Spokane City Council and city employees are organizing a community food drive and fundraiser to benefit the Zilch and Bite2Go programs.
The initiative aims to combat food insecurity in the area, the city announced in a release.
“I am grateful for this work to address food insecurity. It’s about more than meals, it’s about dignity and stability,” said Council Member Paul Dillon. “This effort will help support student retention, long-term community health, and help everyone thrive.”
Bite2Go’s website highlights that one in five children in the region face food shortages, affecting their ability to focus and learn in school. The community is encouraged to donate to ensure no child goes hungry.
Council Member Michael Cathcart encourages participation.
“If attending a City Council meeting isn’t reason enough to visit City Hall, the opportunity to drop off needed items for our community should top that list,” said Cathcart.
The food drive will run from October 15 to December 15. Non-perishable foods and monetary donations are accepted.
Drop-off locations include City Hall’s first, third and seventh floors, and the Chase Gallery outside the Council Chambers.
Financial contributions can be made via a secure QR Code linked to Bite2Go at 2nd Harvest. For more information on the programs, visit the 2nd Harvest website.
