SPOKANE, Wash. – Members of the Spokane City Council are deliberating on a potential change in how the city will fund emergency shelters in 2026.
Councilman Jonathan Bingle brought attention to the 1590 funds, which are generated from a 0.1 percent sales tax dedicated to affordable housing and supportive services.
The council members are being asked to reallocate $1 million from the general fund to support the program.
This decision could impact the funding structure for emergency shelters in Spokane, highlighting the city’s commitment to addressing affordable housing challenges.
