SPOKANE, Wash. – As primary elections approach, candidates for Spokane’s City Council District 3 are ramping up their campaigns. Incumbent Zack Zappone, Cody Arguelles, and Christopher Savage are vying for a spot in the general election.
Zappone, part of the Democratic majority on the council, previously raised nearly $110,000 in 2021. This year, he has accumulated around $41,000 in contributions, taking a more frugal approach by spending only $14,000, primarily on signage, fliers, and postal efforts.
Arguelles leads in fundraising for District 3 with over $51,000, though he is the only candidate with campaign debt of about $15,000. He has spent just under $27,000, mostly on digital ads and signage.
Savage has raised just over $38,000 and opted for a “blitz” style campaign, spending 78% of his funds on broadcast ads.
Local contributors and businesses have significantly supported all three candidates. Arguelles has received out-of-state donations from Idaho, California, and New Mexico, totaling over $3,000. Zappone’s out-of-state contributions amount to $1,125 from New Jersey, Massachusetts, and Washington, D.C. Savage’s sole out-of-state donation is a $1,200 contribution from Texas.
The candidates’ strategies and financial standings set the stage for an intense primary election battle in Spokane’s District 3.
