SPOKANE, Wash. – Spokane City Council members have taken action to protect renters by voting in favor of prohibiting algorithmic rent price fixing this week.
The new ordinance targets technology that could lead to digital collusion among landlords, which can result in increased rental prices and vacancies.
The ordinance also aims to prevent collusive pricing practices and price gouging in the rental market.
The Washington State Attorney General has previously filed suits against similar software. Additionally, the state legislature considered regulation of such practices earlier this year.
