Spokane City Council approves new public spaces program for community engagement enhancement

SPOKANE, Wash. — The Spokane City Council unanimously approved to activate a new, accessible and affordable public spaces program.

According to the city, this program will streamline the permitting and licensing process to enhance engagement during festivals, parades and athletic events.

This new program will allow more sidewalk cafes, street eats, and parklets.

“We are not only enhancing our public spaces but also fostering a vibrant community where residents and visitors can come together to celebrate, connect, and enjoy all that Spokane has to offer,” said Council President Betsy Wilkerson.

The resolution will now head to the Community and Economic Development Division and the Mayor’s office for implementation.
