SPOKANE, Wash. – The Spokane City Council has approved an amendment for the 2025-2026 Mid-Biennial Modification Budget, with a 5-2 vote. According to city officials, the amendment aims to allocate funds to the library, City Cable 5 and the public defender’s office, while implementing minimal staff cuts.
“I value the Brown Administration’s partnership in this year’s budget revision. My fellow Council Members and I have worked closely with the Mayor on the proposed changes,” City Council President Betsy Wilkerson stated.
Wilkerson and Council Member Paul Dillon noted that sacrifices were made by the council and other city departments to reallocate funds to essential initiatives.
This ordinance serves as a mid-biennial adjustment to the two-year biennial budget that the city established in June 2024. The amendment to the budget will take effect on January 1, 2026, meeting statutory obligations.
