ELK, Wash. – Members of the Spokane Stake of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints led a large-scale clean-up effort to help those affected by the 2023 Oregon Road Fire in Elk.

The event was held on September 13 as a part of the National Day of Service and Remembrance.

The event was open to anyone who wanted to come, but was largely made up of hundreds of members of the Spokane Stake of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

“As followers of Jesus, we seek to serve as He served in the community, always looking for opportunities to lift the hands that hang down,” said President Timothy Cobb, president of the Spokane Stake. “By coming together in Elk, our hope is to refresh, rebuild, and renew damaged property while increasing the love of God among His children.”

Community members signed up using the website JustServe.org.

The event honored September 11, which is the National Day of Service and Remembrance.
