Spokane Canoe and Kayak Club hosts paddle season kickoff event

SPOKANE, Wash. — As warmer weather arrives in the Inland Northwest, paddling enthusiasts can kick off the season at a free community event Thursday evening.

The Spokane Canoe and Kayak Club will host its annual paddle season kickoff from 6 to 8 p.m. at Mirabeau Meadows Pavilion in Spokane Valley. The event welcomes paddlers of all experience levels to connect with the regional paddling community.

While it may be too early in the year for most people to get on the water, the event provides an opportunity to learn about various ways to enjoy local lakes and rivers through paddling.

“We can have talks with instructors, demonstrations. Whether you want to take your paddling to the next level or ask newbie questions, everything is here tonight,” said Kelly Clark, club president.

The gathering will feature representatives from multiple organizations within the paddling community. Attendees can meet with board members from the Spokane Canoe and Kayak Club, connect with local river advocates from Spokane Riverkeeper and River Forum, and visit with representatives from Team River Runner and the North Idaho Kayakers. Light refreshments will be provided throughout the evening.

For those interested in paddling gear, the club will partner with Team River Runner to host a paddling gear swap on May 16. The swap will take place in the Evergreen parking lot from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The kickoff event is free and open to the public. Mirabeau Meadows Pavilion is located at 13500 E Mirabeau Parkway in Spokane Valley.
