SPOKANE, Wash. – Mayor Lisa Brown has appointed Stephen Williams as the new Director of Emergency Communications to lead the development of Spokane’s new emergency communications center, the Spokane United 911 Network (SUN).
Williams brings 25 years of global executive experience in public safety operations and technology. He previously served as the Director of Emergency Communications & Citizen Services for Virginia Beach and as Chief of Operations for Washington, D.C.’s Office of United Communications.
Most recently, he worked on designing and launching an emergency response and security center in Saudi Arabia. Williams also has technology experience with companies like Hexagon and Prepared 911.
Williams was chosen after a competitive recruitment process involving a selection committee from the Spokane Police Department, Spokane Fire Department and relevant labor organizations.
Mayor Brown expressed her confidence in Williams, saying, “The City of Spokane is looking forward to having Stephen on the team. His extensive public safety experience will be instrumental as we stand up our new public safety answering point.”
Williams will begin his role in early February.
