Spokane airport seeks seasonal workers for snow removal

SPOKANE, Wash. – Spokane International Airport is actively searching for seasonal workers to operate heavy equipment for snow removal during the winter months. The airport is looking to hire approximately 30 people, primarily those with a commercial driver’s license (CDL).

Ryan Sheehan from Spokane International Airport emphasized the importance of experience in operating heavy equipment. “Typically we’re looking for folks that have a CDL. Maybe they’ve been laid off from their regular job for the winter. They work in construction and they work in agriculture, but they have that experience operating heavy equipment. Maybe they have some experience plowing snow from another position and they’re just looking for something to do over the winter time,” he said.

However, applicants without a CDL are also encouraged to apply. Those without a CDL will operate smaller equipment. Applications can be found at spokaneairports.net under the employment tab.

The airport values strong communication skills and teamwork. Sheehan highlighted the significance of the role, saying, “It’s doing something really important for your community. Being out here, being an integral part of the team, making sure that folks can travel and return home safely.”

The positions are on-call with 12-hour shifts and workers can expect about 24 hours of advanced notice depending on the weather forecast. A $1,000 bonus is offered to those who are already CDL certified and the pay rate is $36 per hour. A physical and drug screening are required as part of the application process.

Applicants are advised to be patient as it may take some time for airport staff to respond after submitting an application.
