SPOKANE, Wash. – The Special Olympics Organization of Washington partnered with local law enforcement and Spokane County Fire District 9 for a day of fundraising in North Spokane.
The event was part of the Special Olympics Law Enforcement Torch Fund campaign.
Fire District 9’s commitment to the community shone brightly during the event.
“It’s awesome. I mean, this is what it’s all about for us,” a firefighter said.
“It’s about taking care of our community whether it be supporting Special Olympics, responding to incidents, being there in our community day in and day out.”
The fundraiser took place in the Fred Meyer parking lot, benefiting local Special Olympics teams, including the Spokane Pacers.
“Our team originated with the community colleges of Spokane so all money that is raised today will go to Spokane Pacers team,” a spokesperson said.
The event, dubbed the “annual cop and fire on top water fight,” has been a staple since 2022. Participants enjoyed the opportunity to connect with the community and raise funds for a great cause.
“Being down here to support Special Olympics was a fun Saturday afternoon. I’d do it again any weekend they asked us to do it,” a participant said.
Those involved were delighted to see the joy on the faces of the Special Olympians.
“I’m watching the smiles on the Special Olympians’ faces. They were really happy to be able to get the fire chief wet today,” a participant said.
