COEUR D’ALENE, Idaho – A community event featuring speakers who have faced high-profile tragedies will be held Sept. 6 at The Altar in Coeur d’Alene.

The lineup includes Sara Weaver, Cara Kernodle and Tim Remington.

Weaver is the daughter of Randy and Vicki Weaver, whose family was involved in the 1992 Ruby Ridge standoff in northern Idaho. The standoff, which followed a federal investigation into firearms charges, led to the deaths of Weaver’s brother Sammy, her mother Vicki, Deputy U.S. Marshal William Francis Degan and the family dog. The case became one of the most controversial incidents in Idaho history and helped fuel anti-government sentiment nationwide.

Kernodle is the mother of Xana Kernodle, one of the four University of Idaho students killed in an off-campus house in Moscow in 2022. She is expected to share a statement at the event.

Remington, a longtime Coeur d’Alene pastor, survived being shot six times in 2016 outside a church parking lot. The shooter, Kyle Odom, was later sentenced to 25 years in prison, with 10 years fixed and the remainder indeterminate.

Organizers say the event will feature personal testimonies about resilience and forgiveness following traumatic experiences.

The event is scheduled from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at The Altar, 901 East Best Avenue in Coeur d’Alene.
