YELLOWSTONE – Smokey Bear, the iconic U.S. Forest Service ranger, is celebrating his 81st birthday. Known for his enduring message, “only you can prevent wildfires,” Smokey remains a symbol of fire safety awareness.
Officials emphasize that the best gift for Smokey is doing your part to prevent wildfires. They recommend using common sense and keeping safety in mind, especially as Yellowstone is currently at a very high fire danger level.
It’s crucial to follow campfire safety tips. “Soak the fire until steam stops,” officials advise. “Stir the ashes to uncover any hidden embers and feel the pit. Only leave when it is cool.”
