KOOTENAI COUNTY, Wash. – Silverwood Theme Park raised $38,120 for local food banks through Community Appreciation Weekends held throughout the month of September.

Food banks that benefited from the park’s fundraiser include ABC Food Bank in Athol, 3rd Avenue Marketplace in Post Falls, Second Harvest in Spokane, Community Action Partnership in Coeur d’Alene and Bonner Community Food Bank in Sandpoint.

During Community Appreciation Weekends, the park contributed $4 from every general admission ticket and $1 from youth and senior tickets to its donation fund.

Representatives from Silverwood met with representatives from the food banks on October 23 to distribute their checks in person. During the meeting, they also discussed needs as food prices rise in the region.

The representatives said canned goods, non-perishable proteins and nutritious grains were in high demand and the need for assistance in Spokane and North Idaho is increasing, according to Silverwood.

Silverwood’s donation is meant to help cover the food bank’s infrastructure cost, provide funds for facility updates and provide gasoline to support food deliveries and growth.

“We’re thrilled to see such a generous response, and were able to match our total from last season,” said Silverwood’s Public Relations Manager, Sara Meddock. “We have to give our local region a huge thank you for their support in September, which helped our Community Appreciation Weekends succeed.”
