Shoshone County Jail plans changes to address staffing issues

SHOSHONE COUNTY, Idaho – Changes are on the horizon for the Shoshone County Jail as newly appointed Sheriff William Eddy seeks to address staffing challenges.

In a social media post, Sheriff Eddy highlighted that the jail does not meet the inmate-to-staff ratio required by Idaho State Jail Standards.

To tackle this issue, the county plans to swear in two new detention deputies by the end of the month. They are also actively hiring two more to reach full staffing levels.

Sheriff Eddy has requested a temporary policy change from the county prosecutor’s office. He wants non-violent inmates with less severe charges to be released.

This measure aims to ease the burden on current staff while ensuring that jail space is used effectively.

Sheriff Eddy also mentioned that the jail will not transfer county-held inmates to other facilities. However, state-held inmates might be moved to a more suitable location.

These changes reflect a focused effort to improve operations and maintain safety within the jail.
