NEW YORK (AP) — Fast-fashion retailer Shein says it has launched an investigation after an image resembling a man accused of murder was used to model a shirt on its website.
The photo appeared to show Luigi Mangione, who is charged with killing UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson in New York last year, modeling a short-sleeved white shirt. The item was listed for sale at just under $10 before being removed.
A Shein spokesperson said the photo came from a third-party vendor and was taken down immediately once discovered.
“We are conducting a thorough investigation, strengthening our monitoring processes, and will take appropriate action against the vendor in line with our policies,” the company said in a statement.
It is not clear how long the image was online or which seller posted it to Shein’s marketplace.
